Hospitality and Outdoor – New Vacancy – Restaurant Area Manager
Group of Upmarket Restaurants – Cape Town – Western Cape
An established group of upmarket restaurants is seeking an experienced Restaurant Area Manager to oversee its Cape Town operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially focused, hands-on leader who understands premium dining environments and can maintain exceptional standards across multiple outlets. The successful candidate will support restaurant managers, improve operational performance and ensure that every venue delivers a consistently outstanding guest experience.
Job Description & Requirements:
- Oversee the daily operations and performance of multiple upmarket restaurant outlets.
- Conduct regular site visits and provide visible, practical support to restaurant managers.
- Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, beverage service, presentation and guest care.
- Monitor revenue, operating expenses, labour costs, stock usage, wastage and outlet profitability.
- Review management reports and implement corrective action where performance falls below target.
- Assist restaurant managers with budgets, forecasts and operational improvement plans.
- Drive sales, average spend and sustainable profitability across the assigned restaurants.
- Support restaurant managers with recruitment, onboarding, training and team development.
- Coach management teams and promote accountability, collaboration and professional service.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, health and safety and company procedures.
- Monitor stock controls, ordering processes, cash-handling procedures and loss-prevention measures.
- Resolve operational, staffing and guest-service concerns professionally and timeously.
- Protect the premium positioning, reputation and service culture of each restaurant.
- Strong multi-site restaurant operations or senior restaurant management experience is essential.
- Previous exposure to upmarket, premium or high-volume restaurant environments is highly beneficial.
- Proven ability to lead restaurant managers and develop high-performing teams.
- Sound commercial understanding, including budgets, cost controls and profit-and-loss performance.
- Excellent planning, communication, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- A hands-on leadership style and the flexibility to work according to operational requirements.
- Willingness to travel regularly between restaurant locations in Cape Town.
- Must be South African.
- A relevant hospitality, operations or business qualification would be advantageous.
- Experience with restaurant point-of-sale, stock-control and reporting systems would be advantageous.
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable transport would be advantageous.
Package
- Salary: R40 000 – R50 000 depending on experience
