Hospitality and Outdoor – New Vacancy – Financial Manager
Restaurant and Guesthouses – Stellenbosch – Western Cape
A restaurant and guesthouse operation in Stellenbosch is looking for an organised and commercially minded Financial Manager to oversee its day-to-day financial function. The successful candidate will ensure accurate reporting, effective financial controls and the timely completion of statutory submissions. This role would suit a hands-on finance professional who understands the varied revenue streams and operational demands of hospitality businesses.
Job Description & Requirements:
- Manage the daily financial activities of the restaurant and guesthouse operations.
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports for management review.
- Compile annual budgets, cash-flow forecasts and financial projections.
- Monitor revenue, operating costs and departmental performance against approved budgets.
- Investigate financial variances and provide clear findings and recommendations to management.
- Complete and submit VAT returns accurately and within the required deadlines.
- Maintain supporting documentation and reconciliations for all VAT submissions.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger processes.
- Review supplier invoices, payment schedules, debtor balances and creditor reconciliations.
- Manage bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Maintain accurate financial records across the restaurant and guesthouse operations.
- Assist with payroll-related financial controls and ensure accurate payroll reconciliations.
- Monitor cash handling, banking, point-of-sale reconciliations and daily revenue reporting.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls, policies and financial procedures.
- Support stock control processes and review food, beverage and operating cost reports.
- Prepare financial information and supporting schedules for external accountants and auditors.
- Assist management with commercial decisions, cost-saving initiatives and profitability analysis.
- Experience completing VAT calculations and submissions is essential.
- Previous financial management, accounting or bookkeeping experience is required.
- Hospitality finance experience within restaurants, guesthouses, hotels or similar establishments would be advantageous.
- A relevant finance or accounting qualification would be advantageous.
- Strong spreadsheet, reporting and financial analysis skills are important.
- Excellent attention to detail, integrity and deadline management are required.
- The successful candidate must be able to work independently and communicate financial information clearly.
