Barman – Pongola Private Reserve

Introduction

Pongola Private Reserve is seeking an experienced and passionate Barman to join its hospitality team. This is an exciting opportunity for a service-driven individual who enjoys creating exceptional guest experiences in a luxury lodge environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving beverages, maintaining high service standards, and ensuring the bar area remains welcoming, organised, and fully stocked at all times.

Working closely with the broader hospitality team, the Barman will engage with guests, provide beverage recommendations, process orders accurately, and assist in creating memorable experiences. The role also requires flexibility, as the successful candidate may be required to assist as a waiter or butler when operational needs demand.

This position is ideal for a professional who thrives in a guest-focused environment, demonstrates excellent communication skills, and has a strong understanding of cocktails, wines, beers, and spirits. Experience within a hotel, restaurant, bar, or lodge setting will be highly advantageous.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked bar area.
• Take and process guest orders efficiently and accurately.
• Engage with guests and provide beverage recommendations.
• Create a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
• Handle guest and staff bar bills using the POS system.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management.
• Have previous bartending experience within a hotel, lodge, restaurant, or bar environment.
• Possess sound knowledge of cocktails, wines, beers, and spirits.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Be willing and able to assist as a waiter or butler when required.
• Maintain a professional, reliable, and team-oriented approach.
• Be flexible to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Opera or Semper POS experience will be advantageous.

Salary: R8,000 per month (DOE)
