Assistant Guesthouse Manager – George, Garden Route

Introduction

Oude Berg Guesthouse, a luxury hospitality guesthouse in George, on the Garden Route, is seeking an Assistant Guesthouse Manager to join the team. This is a hands‑on junior‑to‑mid‑level management role, ideal for someone with practical hospitality experience, staff supervision skills, and a passion for guest service. Reporting directly to the owners/directors, the Assistant Manager will play a key role in ensuring smooth daily operations and consistently high standards of service.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2–3 years’ practical hospitality experience in a hotel, guesthouse, lodge, or similar accommodation establishment
• Previous experience supervising staff or managing day‑to‑day operations
• Direct guest‑facing experience with check‑ins, enquiries, and complaints
• Strong administrative and organisational skills
• Computer literacy and experience with booking/property‑management systems
• Valid driver’s licence
• Formal qualification in Hospitality, Hotel or Tourism Management (advantage)
• Experience with NightsBridge (advantage)

Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily running of the guesthouse
• Supervise housekeeping and operational staff
• Allocate duties and monitor work standards
• Conduct room and property inspections
• Ensure rooms are correctly presented for guest arrivals
• Maintain bookings and guest information
• Complete daily operational and occupancy reports
• Monitor staff attendance and leave records
• Report and follow up on maintenance issues
• Manage stock control for linen, amenities, groceries, and cleaning products
• Handle grocery and operational shopping when required
• Check deliveries and maintain records
• Manage petty cash, receipts, and basic administration
• Liaise with suppliers and service providers
• Assist with staff onboarding, training, and performance monitoring
• Monitor guest feedback and online reviews
• Ensure guesthouse standards, procedures, and health and safety requirements are maintained
