Requirements
- 2 years head guide experience – 5-star
- 5 years in 5-star luxury property
- Own Rifle (would be a benefit) + ARH/ SAPS Competency Certificate
- NQF 2/4 Nature Site Guide + Trails Guide and KNP Proficiency (Bonus)
- Cathsseta
- Paid up member of FGASA
- Wilderness First Aid (Level 2)
- Driver’s License and PrDP
Description
- Training of guides and uplifting skills.
- Ensure all guides licenses and credentials are kept up to date – NDT, first aid, trails hours etc.
- Ensure all firearms are maintained, registers updated and comply to health and safety regulations and standards.
- Ensure guides follow SOP’s and perform according to standard.
- Weekly meetings with guiding department, adhering to concession rules, especially regarding off road driving.
- Ensure guest safety and satisfaction.
- Meticulous in all aspects of managing the guiding department.
- Manage, oversee, and discipline staff in the guiding department.
- Staff training and development – very important.
- All administrative duties pertaining to the guiding department.
- Stock Controls: Responsible for all stock such as equipment, radios, vehicles, rifles, ammunition, first aid equipment with regular checks made to ensure serviceability, and monthly counts done.
- Have thorough technical knowledge and understanding of vehicles, operations, and equipment. Strong mechanical background will be beneficial.
- Vehicles sent for services with and management thereof, including transfer vehicles and camp bakkies.
- Follow up on Cartrack and monitor guides movement and speed.
- Allocation of guides to daily game drives.
- Daily Game Drives and Bush walks when needed and aware of when the various activities are taking place.
- Rosters for guides.
- Ensure correct uniform is always worn and no cross branding amongst the lodges.
- Newsletters and assist with social media and photography.
- Assist around the lodge in other departments.
- Perform duty manager shifts when necessary- hosting guests and ensuring the service shift runs smoothly.
- Attend all managerial meetings, including morning meetings.
- Set up of wildlife projects, surveys, and monitoring, for internal data collection to share amongst the guides and for use with monthly newsletters.
- Make sure Fauna and Flora are preserved.
- Work with the concession manager and stand in when on off days.
